Meet The Founder
Following a visit to The Dream Center, Dr. Leon Crawford was inspired by the phrase "Get A Life" and returned from Los Angeles, California to Michigan, determined to serve his community. In 2007, he founded Get A Life Inc, aiming to make a difference in the Metro Detroit Area by providing food to high-risk groups such as seniors and needy families. Initially, the organization fed over five hundred families through a partnership with the local food pantry, Forgotten Harvest. Get A Life also contributed to neighborhood beautification efforts, including leaf raking and snow shoveling. Dr. Crawford's vision for community support continued to grow, leading to a revamp of Get A Life in 2022 to include youth support, offering shoes and toys, and fostering skills for community improvement. In 2018, the Boys2Men Summer Program was launched, teaching skills like money management, professional dressing, dating etiquette, carpentry, and car maintenance. Dr. Crawford's latest initiative aims to extend community resources to veterans requiring housing. He remains actively engaged with community leaders to introduce more programs to Inkster, Michigan, and the broader Metro Detroit area. Dr. Crawford takes pride in his family, being married to Priscilla Crawford, fathering five children, and spoiling his seven grandchildren. A golf enthusiast, he enjoys his leisure time on the course. His significant contributions have been recognized by WXYZ channel 7 news and Fox 2 Detroit, earning him the Detroit 20/20 awards for his exceptional community work with the Boys 2 Men program.
